We have all questioned the point we are at in our lives. "Where am I right now? How did I get here? Am I truly happy? What do I want out of my life? What do I need to get from where I am to where I want to be?" - these might be some questions you find yourself asking, time and time again and as you evolve, the answers to these questions change. This is most likely your inner consciousness prompting you to kick start or restart your journey of self-discovery.
We then often find ourselves asking " What is the Self-Discovery Journey?"
Self-discovery is all about what gives you joy. It is the process of discovering ourselves, over and over again, as we try to find out what gives us purpose. We might not have one sole purpose but multiple things we are placed on earth to do. The purpose we seek is derived from the journey we are on.
It involves a level of self-awareness, understanding there's no quick and easy fix for the wounds that keep reopening, the trauma we keep reliving or the anxiety we keep feeling. It's listening to the body, understanding why it's been triggered, which part of you hurts and asking yourself "Where does it come from?"
The journey requires us to be emotionally vulnerable because our lives are a series of experiences and changes. We need to ask ourselves deep questions.
We have to learn self-acceptance, how to communicate boundaries, understand what forgiveness looks like, deal with generational trauma and tackle all sorts of personal struggles in our journey.
Some reflection questions that you could ask yourself include:
1. Have I taken time for myself this week? How?
2. What are the things I find inspiring?
3. What do I value the most?
4. What are my fears?
5. Do I seek external validation or am I complete?
More often than not the construct of culture, social norms, and gender roles influence how we view ourselves. It is important to acknowledge these influences but also understand that you should do things that are personal to you, that keep you feeling authentic and avoids the risks of feeling empty.
Discovering yourself is part of self-care and self-love. It is a time to explore your passions which requires courage, vulnerability, and self-awareness. Self-discovery is learning to trust yourself and believe in your dreams, goals, and passions. It is more than necessary to live a meaningful life.

Your self-discovery never really ends, but the more you lean into the process, the more you can create a purposeful, joyful life. You will learn to listen to and trust yourself. Personal growth also goes hand in hand with mindfulness. Mindfulness is consciously choosing to focus on the present moment. We tend to focus on the negative or worry about the future but being mindful grounds you back into the present which allows you to be in the present moment with your inner self.
The greatest freedom and joy in life is being able to be who you are. Being authentically yourself, doing the things that bring you joy, and sharing it with the world is what self-discovery will lead you to.
